In the original article "Delmarva DNA: An O-F3288 Y DNA Discovery for Patrilineal Descendants of James Revell (Accomack)," we learned about the “Patrilineal Descendants of James Revell (Accomack) Y DNA Project” that includes the Y chromosome DNA test results of three men, all living in the United States, who are, according to historical records and documented genealogies, patrilineal descendants of James Revell born 1656, an Accomack Indian from “Matomkin” on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
Accomack County is adjacent to Somerset County, Maryland to the northwest, Worcester County to the northeast, and is a part of the Delmarva Peninsula, that comprises the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and Delaware. A September 1, 2021 update has that Big Y 700 DNA test results have arrived for the second Revels man, who shares the same patrilineal ancestor with Wesley Revels and the Lewis man referenced earlier. To recap, this ancestor was "James Revell," of the Matomkin Village of Accomack County, Virginia. According to court records dating back to the 1600s, "James Revell," referred to as an "Indian boy" had been granted the right to use the "Revell" surname by a judge. As predicted, this second Revels man belongs to the O-FT45548 Big Y DNA haplogroup, which is one step down from the O-BY60500 Big Y DNA haplogroup of which Wesley Revels is a member. Referencing the latest O Y haplotree, we find that haplogroup O-BY60500 is a subclade of haplogroup O-FT11768, which is, in turn, one step down from haplogroup O-M110. These haplogroups are child subclades of the parent (East Asian) haplogroup O-M175. Recall that the second Revels man originally belonged to the (East Asian) O-F3288 subclade, according to results of his earlier, Big Y 500 DNA test. Results from his upgraded, Big Y 700 DNA test (O-FT45548) supersede his original Big Y 500 DNA test results and the position of his newly assigned, Big Y DNA haplogroup on the "O" Y haplotree has likewise changed. Presently, haplogroups O-BY60500 and O-FT45548 are, referencing the biographical information of close, 111-marker Y DNA matches, found to be "United States (Native American)" in origin. Family Finder (autosomal DNA) results show that the Lewis man and Wesley Revels are 4th-remote genetic cousins while the Lewis man and the second Revels man are 3rd-5th genetic cousins. These latest Family Finder results demonstrate, as with the Big Y DNA and 111-marker Y DNA test results, an undeniable and DNA-proven shared ancestry among these three men.
